6:32:45 PM | So I was telling someone this story the other day... and we couldnt stop laughing. Its much funnier when you are here at craig drive and I can just see Dan replaying it all over...
I remember when Dan was at Craig drive and had the kids on his own that summer. Well I got to be at his house a lot that summer hanging out. One of these days, Dan was home... and someone knocked on the door. She introduced herself as a social worker with Family and Children Services. Dan of course greeted her like anyone else, with enthusiasm and interest. She then started saying something to the effect ' Sir its been reported that there are kids here living with animal feces and no food'... Dan made a face of disgust... and said 'that sounds serious... you definatly should check it out... we should find um'.. (As if suddenly Dan was a detective and the two were on a mission). He escorted her into the house. She looked around and he did too... she turned and said... do you mind if I take a look around your house? Dan stretched his arm out signaling the go ahead. Of course Dan still looked like he was on a mission, looking around the house himself...( which honestly I think really confused the lady.) I remember michael asking what he was looking for i think Dans reply was...' son there are kids eating poop... im looking for them...' It was suddenly a family mission to find these 'kids'...
Anyhow, after she found the house in pretty decent shape (Dan was a bachelor at this point but of course it just looked like a man lived there with his kids.) She asked if she could talk to the kids one at a time... Dan of course gathered the boys. And Binky was too little to say anything... So she took um in the room... and i think Dan thought he was next... waiting to go in and talk to her...
So she then checked the fridge and found food, and food in the cabinets... and as she was leaving michael or mason said they were hungry... and Dan said some smarty comment...son.. not right now, we will go outside to find dinner from the dog as soon as this nice lady leaves.
I know she never came back... but I can imagine what confused state she left in that day... with Dan mocking her yet she was laughing with him... and then his sly remarks as she left.
I guess she expected him to be mad and angry that she was called out.... instead he kinda blew it off and made it a game.
By the way... Dan did really well with them that summer! Of course with Dan it was always an adventure :) Gosh he loved his kids!
